Tower block parachutist 'given words of advice' by police

Police had words with a parachutist who leapt from the top of a 15-storey building in Middlesbrough on Friday morning.

The 43-year-old man jumped off the top of Welton House in Netherfields at about 7.30am. Police were called to the scene after a concerned member of the public spotted him stood on the top of the 15 storey high-rise building.

But when the adrenaline junkie jumped off, it became apparent the incident was not a suicide attempt when he launched a parachute. The man then landed safely on the ground.

A Cleveland Police spokeswoman said: "The man was spoken to by officers and was given words of advice."
