TV news crew film passed out driver waking up, crashing into several cars then fleeing the scene

Channel 2 Action News was there on Saturday afternoon when a driver, slumped over in his pickup truck on the Buford Connector, Georgia, unexpectedly woke up, then crashed his truck into several vehicles before fleeing the scene.

Channel 2's Atlanta-area reporter Liz Artz called 911 when she and her photographer came across the man behind the wheel. The truck was stopped in a lane of traffic and was still running. The man sat slumped over, drooling.

A Georgia Department of Transportation HERO unit arrived and tried to revive the man and remove the keys from the ignition. The driver awoke, scuffled with a HERO worker and sped off, nearly hitting the HERO worker. The truck then smashed into two cars, causing a chain reaction that resulted in a five-car accident.

But it wasn't over yet. Atlanta police had still not arrived to the scene when the HERO worker made one more attempt to stop the man. He managed to get the key out of the truck, but the driver was able to flee. The man then climbed a tree and jumped over a barbed wire fence. Police arrived a short time later. they have still not found the driver. No one was seriously injured in the accident.

So he went from getting a scolding from a traffic worker to multiple counts of felony hit-and-run. Genius.

The DOT worker mentioned that he thought the driver is diabetic. This would explain the guys behavior.

Of course, so would drugs...
