Police called to negotiate after boy locked out parents when given pasta not pizza for lunch

Police were called to negotiate with an 11-year-old boy on Thursday after he took exception to the fact that his mother had made him pasta and not pizza for lunch.

Unhappy about this, when both parents briefly went outside he locked the door and refused to let them back into the house in Auwiesen, Linz, Austria.

After begging with their son to open the door, to no avail, his hapless parents called the police.

A police officer negotiated with the child through a balcony door, until he gave in and unlocked the door. It is not known if he finally ate his pasta.

Begged the 11-year-old to let them back in? It's obvious who is in charge in that family. Had I been the father in that situation, this is what I would have done: I would have informed the child that if he doesn't unlock the door immediately, I will break in either through a window or a door, and the costs of repair will be deducted from his allowance (or if he doesn't get allowance, then from the budget for Christmas presents or something like that). I would also have gone trough with my threat if he didn't obey.

It's OK for children to have tantrums and rebel against their parents, but when they cross a line, like in this case, the parents should never let the child get away with it with a feeling he's the boss.
