Bear cub with head stuck in protein powder tub rescued by police and firefighters

A bear cub in Colorado Springs, Colorado, went for a ride in a police patrol car on Tuesday as officers attempted to rescue the animal from a plastic bottle.

Just after 5am, officers spotted the cub with a protein powder bottle stuck on its head. When the officers were unable to remove it, they got creative.

"The quick-witted officers were able to get the cub into the back seat of a patrol car and brought her to nearby Fire Station 3, where a Department of Wildlife Ranger sedated the bear," the Colorado Springs police department said.

Firefighters were able to safely remove the bottle from the cub's head, police said, using rescue tools. Wildlife officials tagged and released the bear "in hopes that she will be reunited with mama bear," police said.
