Man who rammed car into jail doors said he just wanted to visit friends

Authorities in Indian River County, Florida, say a 24-year-old man rammed his car into the front doors of one of the jail buildings in the early hours of Tuesday morning, barely missing a deputy standing outside.

When Patrick Rempe tried to get away by climbing over the fence, he got tangled in the razor wire. Emergency crews were called to remove Rempe from the fence and treat him for injuries he suffered in the crash and from the fence.

Officials said Rempe, of Vero Beach, told deputies he was “high on flakka” and just wanted to visit friends who were in the jail. Rempe is being held under supervision at the Indian River Medical Center.
