Teacher accused of stealing shoes before returning them with unspecified bodily fluids

A man police are investigating for stealing shoes and returning them with, what police called “biological evidence,” has turned himself in. The thefts have taken place in Henrico County, Virginia, since early September. The suspect has been identified as Kenneth Johnson III. Henrico County School spokesman, Andy Jenks said Johnson is a maths teacher at Varina high school and has been placed on administrative leave.

On Friday Henrico police said the suspect had been identified and charges were pending. Police said they started receiving reports of women whose shoes had been removed from their porches overnight. There are four related incidents that have been reported. Police said they believe there are more victims and possibly in other jurisdictions. Police didn't specify what type of bodily fluids were left in the shoes, but did say it is not fecal in nature.

"We had an incident where one house had the same thing happen twice," Henrico Police Lt. Chris Eley said, "and that's when we started looking more seriously." One victim said she actually confronted the shoe stealer when she drove up to her home to find him walking away with her running shoes. She asked him what he was doing, and he told her he loved the smell of her shoes before sniffing them in front of her.

In an email sent to the area’s neighbourhood watch group, another victim said she found a note in her shoe. The note stated the suspect was “a married man and his wife’s shoes did not have a smell and he liked performing perverted activity in the shoes and then returning them.” During the investigation, Henrico Police obtained information which leads them to believe there are potentially more victims related to these incidents. They are asking for the public's assistance identifying and locating more potential victims of these incidents.
