Lion rescued after jumping into the sea

In an unusual spectacle, a lion jumped into in the Arabian Sea off the Gujarat coast of India on Saturday.





Fishermen in Amreli district were surprised when they spotted the lion sitting on a rock at the beach in Jafrabad Port. The lion initially caused panic among the local residents and fishermen.





But as throngs of spectators gathered around to watch, the lion dived into the sea. Forest officials were immediately informed. After the rescue team arrived, the lion was lifted from the water, tranquilised and sent to an animal care centre.

Officials said the lion will be under supervision for the time being and added that the animal would be released after proper treatment. According to locals, the lion must have strayed into the port area from nearby forest of the Gir National Park.
