Motorists claim that new parking spaces at car park are too small for vehicles

New parking bay lines at Langland Bay car park in Swansea, south Wales, have made the bays a tight squeeze for even the smallest of cars. Motorist Mervyn Dowrick took this picture after trying to park up his VW van.

He said: "Being a regular visitor to Langland Bay, I turned up at the car park as usual to meet my friends and noticed that new white lines had been painted. However, to my amazement I also noticed that the car parking bays had been marked out for probably the world's smallest cars!

"Some of the bays are so small that you cannot even park a vehicle between them. What a total waste of public money!" He said the previous white lines had pretty much been erased over time, and that motorists were now ignoring the new ones in order to get in and out of their vehicles.

There are spaces for 265 cars in total at the council-owned car park. Higher, summer charges come into force on April 1, as at all the authority's beach and foreshore car parks. It is understand the new lines were painted by contractors. A spokesman for the council said: "We will go out to look at the bays to see if they are the minimum regulated width."
