Police officer assaulted after two men entered supermarket in their underpants

Police were alerted after two men entered the Tesco store at Flint, north-east Wales, in their underpants. But when officers from North Wales Police went to investigate the incident, at 10.17am on Sunday December 27 last year, they were directed to a block of flats where there were 10 people.

One of them, Paul Russell Greenough, 27, threw beer into a female police officer’s face which temporarily blinded her, said prosecutor Helen Hall. Greenough, of Riverbank in Bagillt, denied a charge of assaulting a police officer, but was convicted in his absence at Flintshire Magistrates Court after he failed to turn up for his trial last week.

Magistrates were told that after a report of two men in their underpants at the store , CCTV operators directed police to the Raven Court apartments. Officers found a number of people in the premises and there was a struggle while another man was arrested. The Mold court heard Greenough threw the contents of a can of lager at the officer.

Assistance arrived and the officer arrested Greenough who later told her “as soon as the cuffs come off I will f*cking chin you.” Magistrates were told Greenough had previous convictions for assault on police. Greenough had already pleaded guilty to a charge of threatening behaviour and damaging a police car window following his arrest. A warrant has now been issued for his arrest.
