Several cyclists hurt in kangaroo carcass crash

Four cyclists are in hospital, two with serious fractures, after a freak crash involving a dead kangaroo and a pick-up truck near Shepparton in Victoria, Australia.

Nine riders from the Shepparton Pussy Cats cycling group were riding in line formation in Kialla early on Monday morning when one rider swerved to avoid a kangaroo carcass.

Others unable to avoid the carcass ended up colliding with one another, creating a domino-like effect. The pick-up truck driver was treated for shock and is assisting police.

It is unlikely any criminal charges will be laid. The kangaroo is believed to have been hit by a motorist earlier in the morning, and low light is believed to have contributed to the accident.
