Woman rescued after her car became trapped in power lines

A woman was rescued from her car early on Saturday morning after an incident in Medina, Tennessee, that fire department officials called a "freak accident." Medina Fire Chief Jeff Rollins said the woman apparently drove her car up the set of wires, but it is still unknown what led to the crash.

"She ran up the guy-wire on the pole in a freak accident, and the car spun around the pole," Rollins said. The wires on the opposite side of the pole then wrapped around a tyre, leaving the car suspended above the road. "She couldn't get down," Rollins said. The woman was trapped inside the car, while crews attempted to support the utility pole.

Fire department crews used a bucket truck to reach the passenger door of the car shortly after 1am and break the windows to help the woman out of the car. Rollins said she did not have any serious injuries, but was taken by ambulance to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital for treatment. "The main thing was to get the power lines secured and to get her out of there," Rollins said.

"We got a bucket truck from the power company to get up and get her out of there. That was our main concern - setting her free." The car was later lowered to the ground and loaded onto a flatbed truck to be taken from the scene. Rollins said the wreck was the first of its kind he had seen in more than 30 years with the fire department. "I've been doing this for 38 years, and I've never seen this before," he said.

Running up "guy-wires" is not uncommon. As a matter of fact it happens quite often.

Here's one that happened in 2011:

Why do they call it a "guy" wire when it seems just women drivers are driving up them? ;)

Yeah, I know that's not the case, but both examples here point to some pretty imaginative vehicle manipulation by a pair of femmes.

Here's an example of a male doing it, originally from this site. http://www.neatorama.com/2013/09/18/Teenage-Driver/
