Eagle-eyed policeman diverted traffic around crack in road just before huge sinkhole appeared

An eagle-eyed, quick thinking traffic officer in China saved motorists from possible disaster after a massive sinkhole opened up.

Just moments before the two-metre chasm opened in the middle of the busy road, the policeman apparently noticed a suspicious crack in the road.

The officer cordoned it off with traffic cones and directed cars around it. The road caved in soon afterwards.

The sinkhole opened up, between the officer's well-placed cones, in downtown Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province. The collapse is now being investigated.
