Crowds cheered as dog was rescued from 30ft ledge by firefighters

A dog that was stranded more than 30 feet off the ground on a window ledge has been saved by firefighters. Crowds held their breath in Walsall, on Friday afternoon after seeing the dog perched precariously on the ledge. Walsall Fire Station sent a crew to the scene, who proceeded to bring the dog to safety using ladders.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Fire Service, said: "Upon arrival they found that there was one dog which was stranded on the second floor ledge of a building. "It was removed from where it was by firefighters using ladders to reach it. After collecting the dog they have returned to station with it and contacted the RSPCA in order for them to come and collect it."

The fire engine from Walsall left the scene at just before 3pm. Councillor Pete Smith, who had been passing by the scene at the time, said: "As the crowd got bigger, the fire service arrived and after some time two firefighters, on ladders, reached the dog, calmed it down and made it safe.

"One firefighter forced the window open so he could place the dog safely inside the first floor flat, to the cheers of the on-looking crowd. I was passing by and witnessed this. How relieved we all were when the firemen got to reach the stranded dog and secure its safety. All praise to the Fire Service, for whom no day must be the same."

Ah, they must have used British feet. British feet are .567 to the standard foot.
