Controversy over busty mermaid sand sculpture

A busty mermaid sculpted from sand and placed outside a popular restaurant in Cape Cod, Massachusetts, is raising eyebrows and triggering complaints.

The town of Yarmouth, Massachusetts, and the local Chamber of Commerce say they fielded complaints from locals about the exaggerated proportions of the mermaid's chest.

Yarmouth's police department took down photos of the sculpture from its Facebook page after residents said they found the work of art offensive.

The mermaid clad in a clamshell bikini is one of 41 sand sculptures placed around town as part of the annual Yarmouth Summer Celebration. Salty's restaurant owner Raymond Roy says he's surprised at the fuss. "It's crazy that this has stirred up so much controversy," Roy said. "It's covered, it's not nudity and it shouldn't be censored."

Reminds me of an old comic, possibly from The New Yorker.

In the foreground, a mermaid and a stranded sailor are talking. The sailor says, "I told you it wouldn't work."

In the background, you see a naked little boy running around, with the body of a fish _above_ the waist.
