Man charged after allegedly assaulting two police officers with a frying pan

Two police officers in Richmond, Virginia, are recovering after being hit on the head with a frying pan while responding to a call at around 1am on Friday. A police source says that a suspect assaulted the officers with the frying pan at an apartment complex.

A police spokesperson confirmed that two officers were responding to a domestic incident at that apartment. An officer could be heard yelling out for help over police scanners. “Help! EMS, I’m conscious, breathing … I need one for myself and [gasping]” the officer said.

First responders rushed the injured officer to VCU Medical Center with lacerations to his head. Officials said one of the officers was hospitalised with non-life threatening injuries. The other officer was also treated for non-life threatening injuries, but was released.

Linda Smith, who lives across the street from the crime scene, described the incident as ridiculous. “Some angry person did this,” she said. “They have some violence in them.” The suspect, Andre Mangram, was charged with domestic assault, abduction and felony assault on officers.
