1,000lb bomb floats down the River Mersey

Nearly 150 ferry passengers and 101 crew were stranded on ships in the River Mersey after a large bomb was seen floating in the water.

Spokesman Neil Smith said it was "one of the most powerful and destructive" bombs dropped on the city during WWII.

It was later detonated at sea.
