Council hired £200-a-day consultants to tell staff how to make a cup of tea

East Herts Council fired its tea lady then hired £200-a-day consultants — to tell staff how to make a cuppa.

Workers got into hot water as soon as a self-service urn was installed. One scalded a hand while brewing up. Another broke a wrist.

Fearing being landed with a damages claim experts were called in to advise on health and safety.

The consultants concluded: Workers should stop carrying trays of hot drinks up and down stairs. They also said files should not be left on the floor where workers could trip over them.
