Lessons in happiness to equip pupils to deal with stress

Pupils aged 11 in state schools will receive lessons in happiness in a bid to reduce stress and anti-social behaviour.

Youngsters will be taught to think positively, express their thoughts clearly and learn breathing techniques to help keep calm when their parents are arguing.

The move is designed to boost the self-esteem of thousands of children who are struggling with the pressures of 21st century life such as family break-up and exam overload.

Almost 2,000 secondary school pupils in Manchester and South Tyneside will initially receive the 'anti-depression' classes.
