Miraculous escape as lightning hits girl in bed

A schoolgirl girl was lucky to be alive after a freak lightning bolt tore through the roof of her home - and struck her metal bed.

Karla Pope, 16, was trying to sleep in her first floor bedroom when one billion volt bolt hit the TV ariel on the roof.

The colossal current raced down through the roof - blowing a two-and-a-half foot hole in her bedroom ceiling - and struck her metal-framed bed. Terrified Karla was rushed to hospital suffering burns to her hands, which were touching the frame at the time of the strike.

She was also treated for head wounds caused by debris falling from the ceiling, but miraculously escaped serious injury.
