School bans sports day

A school has scrapped its traditional sports day — because it is too competitive.

Sprints, the egg and spoon and sack races have been replaced by aerobics and playing with inflatables on a “fitness and fun day”.

Barnwell Primary in Sunderland said the move does away with the “threat of competition” — but parents branded it “ridiculous”.
