A bridesmaid will aim to prove her eco-commitment by travelling to her best friend's wedding in Australia without flying.
Barbara Haddrill, 28, who works at the Centre for Alternative Technology in mid-Wales, believes that it would be hypocritical of her to jet from her home in Cardiff to Brisbane. A single flight to Australia uses enough energy per passenger to heat five modern houses for a whole year.
Next month Barbara will take a bus from Wales to Moscow, where she will catch the Trans-Siberian Railway to Beijing and another train to Singapore. She will then find a boat to take her to Australia.
