Mary Ellen has five cats that can freestyle across her swimming pool. She turned up the heat and let them go. She says the swimming is good exercise for the cats. Even the neighbour's cat comes over every once in awhile for a dip in the pool.
Mary Ellen said she was concerned one of her cats would fall in the pool and drown, that is why she originally thought to teach them to swim. She also says it's pretty simple. You start by supporting the cat's chest and once they start to paddle you let them go.
Mary Ellen has her own online newsletter. She posts pictures of her cats swimming and has received hundreds of e-mails from as far away as China.
