False teeth add bite to river clean-up

False teeth, a Monster Truck tyre, a Zimmer frame and a bed are among the unusual items pulled from the Water of Leith this year.

The Water of Leith Conservation Trust today hailed a successful annual clean-up operation, which has helped make the river cleaner than it has been for years.

Shopping trolleys, fast-food litter and bicycles comprise most of the rubbish, but a number of unusual items were also pulled from the water by volunteers.

Other items pulled from the water included a vacuum cleaner and set of skis, some home-made eel traps, a bath and an entire bed.
