A jealous trainee surveyor blew up his wife's house minutes after she served divorce papers on him, a court heard.
Leighton Richards, who suspected his estranged Italian-born wife was having an affair, is said to have doused the £210,000 property with petrol and set it alight.
Neighbours described seeing the 37-year-old leaping from a bedroom window and staggering away with flesh hanging from his body as the house was engulfed by a series of explosions.
Richards of Walthamstow, east London, denies arson and recklessly endangering the life of his next-door neighbour and others.
The case continues.
