'Mystic Mugs' didn't predict benefits probe

A Clairvoyant's husband has been jailed for nine months after his wife failed to predict he would be caught for a benefits fiddle.

Peter Holdridge, formerly of Drury Lane, Derby, illegally claimed tens of thousands of pounds while his wife was pocketing a five-figure sum as psychic Kathy Starr.

Lincoln Crown Court heard how Starr told the fortunes of clients from across the Midlands.

But she did not foretell the downfall of her husband, who was finally shopped to benefits officials after years of cheating the system.

Speaking outside court, John Goodall, of the Department of Work and Pensions, said: "Although his wife was a clairvoyant, she didn't foresee what was going to happen. It's a case of a couple of mystic mugs."
