Tilly the collie is to receive a special award for her recycling work

One of Britain's top recycling dogs, Tilly the collie, is to receive a special award for her work in keeping Exeter green.Tilly, a bright-eyed, wet-nosed five-year-old, has been specially trained to fetch and return plastic bottles and discarded cans, by her owner and passionate recycler, Rachel Bratt, of Wykes Road, Heavitree.

Mother-of-four Mrs Bratt, who has 14-year-old twins and other children aged 11 and 16, as well as two other dogs, said Tilly had taken to her green role with gusto and considerable skill.

Now, Tilly is to be presented with a one-off certificate and "goody bag" by city rubbish supremo, Mike Trim for her services to recycling and combating global warming.

He said: "This is absolutely fantastic. Tilly is not only doing her bit for recycling but for the general environment as well and fully deserves her reward."
