Health and safety killjoys ban playgroup mums from tea making

Mums from the Pat-a-Cake Playgroup are furious after being banned from serving tea and toast on health and safety grounds.

The group, which caters for up to ten children, have been barred by their local council from having snacks during their weekly sessions.

If they fail to follow the edict they could end up by losing their free playtime at a library in Rawmarsh, South Yorkshire.

Julie Brown, 44, a mother-of-two who runs the group said: "We have been told the ban on tea and toast is to do with the council's health and safety policy.

"They are concerned someone could be scaled or burned and sue the council. But the kettle and toaster are partitioned off from the room."
