An elderly grandmother in council care died and was cremated without any of her family being told.
Horrified relatives only discovered what had happened to Dorothy Cusham, 84, when they went to visit her at an old folks’ home.
They found she had been laid to rest without any of them being informed — even though Dorothy’s papers included an address book and a passport giving details of next of kin.
Relatives said they regularly visited Dorothy — who leaves four children and 12 grandchildren — in Walsall, West Midlands, although none had been for a few weeks.
Walsall Council admitted it made a mistake and offered compensation.
