He is a familiar sign on our high streets – a bored student holding aloft a placard with a giant arrow pointing to the latest golf sale or all-you-can-eat buffet.
But he could soon be out of work when new council powers come into force.
From Sunday, human billboards will need a licence to walk the streets. But most local authorities are likely to refuse permission, believing the advertisers clutter pavements and cause a nuisance.
The stricter laws could also destroy the human sandwich board – a person wearing a tabard-style advertising sign.
The Government says it is tightening the rules to clamp down on illegal and anti-social advertising.
