Lizard stuck in gear box console

A lizard that had become trapped in the gear box mechanism of its owner's car has been rescued by firefighters.

The water dragon lizard, which is 12in (31cm) in length, often goes for rides in the car, the fire brigade said.

During a trip to a pet shop in Chelmsford, Essex, on Saturday, the lizard jumped into the foot well and became stuck in the gear stick console.

Andy Harding, from Essex Fire and Rescue Service, said: "Luckily for us the lizard was tame."
