Party animal left feeling deflated

Yorkshire Terrier, India, 'burst' into Sunderland PDSA PetAid hospital recently feeling very deflated. And no wonder – PDSA vets found that the mischievous dog had wolfed down no less than eight party balloons.

Worried owner, Elaine Mather from Fordestate, was baffled when her usually lively pooch was off her food and feeling lethargic. PDSA Veterinary Surgeon, Morag Templeton, was initially puzzled by the dog's symptoms as x-rays and blood tests shed no light on her condition.

Morag comments: "Mrs Mather explained that India had recently eaten part of a rubber toy which she had vomited up, so I suspected she may have swallowed some other foreign body. We performed an exploratory procedure in her abdomen and to our amazement we discovered eight different coloured party balloons - all still intact with hardly any teeth marks.

Once India's bubble had burst, Morag showed the balloons to her stunned owner. Elaine, aged 58, says: "I've no idea where India could have got the balloons as I don't have any at home. My family joked that India could have snuck out to a party one night and taken the balloons as a souvenir, but really, the whole thing's a complete mystery!"
