Teenage driver banned hours after passing test

A teenager has been banned from driving just hours after passing his test, having gone out to celebrate the achievement and been caught drink driving.

Police said 19-year-old former bricklayer Allan Graham, from Redcar, Cleveland, could hold the unenviable record of being the country's shortest-lived legal driver.

Graham passed his test on Saturday February 17 and went out with friends to celebrate until 1am on the Sunday. Just over four hours later, a female friend telephoned him asking for a lift home.

The teenager got out of bed and drove to meet her but was pulled over by a policeman who noticed the lights of his car were not on.

He was found to be almost twice the legal drink drive limit, Guisborough magistrates in Cleveland heard on Friday. They banned him from driving for 12 months.

According to The Sun, he'd only held his licence for 38 hours and 20 minutes.
