Millions of British children do not know which animals their food comes from, a new survey has revealed.
Dairy Farmers of Britain, which asked over 1,000 eight to 15-year-olds about their knowledge of food production, said their research indicated that thousands of children were under the impression that cows could lay eggs.
The organisation, which asked youngsters where they believed a range of food such as milk, eggs, cheese, yoghurt and bacon came from, also found that more than one in ten eight-year-olds did not know that pork chops originated from pigs.
According to the survey, two per cent of city kids thought that eggs came from cows and that bacon was from cows or sheep.
