Funeral Director Says He Hasn't Been Paid For James Brown's Funeral

The funeral director who handled James Brown's funeral says he's still waiting to get paid. Charles Reid of the C.A. Reid Funeral Home in Augusta, Georgia, says he's owed more than 70 thousand dollars for the funeral and care of Brown's body for nearly three months before he was laid to rest. Reid says he hasn't pushed the issue, even though he'd like to have his money.

The check's in the mail, according to Brown's longtime advisor and trustee, Buddy Dallas. He says some of the funeral costs have already been paid and trustees mailed a check for the rest to Reid this week. Dallas says it was the children, not the trustees, who ran up a funeral bill of more than 150 thousand dollars.

Louis Levenson, an attorney for Brown's six adult children, says it's the trustee's responsibility to pay for the funeral, which he considers a "reasonable" amount.
