Man fined for 'washing' woman with his saliva

A man who sprayed a woman with deodorant before "washing" her with his own saliva because she smelled of cigarettes was yesterday fined £300.

Gavin Fairweather, 42, launched the bizarre attack at his home in Stonehaven, Kincardineshire, after arguing with the victim during Hogmanay celebrations last year.

Stonehaven Sheriff Court heard the woman fled to a neighbour's house following the row, but returned two hours later.

Karen Dow, the fiscal depute, told Sheriff Patrick Davies: "He said she smelled of tobacco, sprayed her with deodorant and, taking a quilt, he left. He came back and spat on his hands and wiped her with it."

Passing sentence, the sheriff said: "The fact that you are no longer in the relationship means there is no fear of repetition."
