Riddle of the Rolls Royce that nobody wanted

It's a luxury car fit for royalty - but someone's abandoned it in Birmingham.

A Rolls Royce Silver Spirit, which once turned heads wherever it was driven, was left parked up in the city at the turn of the year - and no-one returned to collect it.

Now the posh 1984 roller, which sold for £50,000 when it was new, is in a city wreckers yard.

With its blue leather interior and silver paintwork, the huge 6.7 litre saloon was clearly once a cherished vehicle.

It was left below a block of council flats in the city in January. After being reported by residents it was towed away by the city council and is now being stored in a Nechells wreckers yard.

But officials say they have never come across such a valuable car and today appealed in a last ditch attempt to find the owner.

"Ordinarily, if nobody comes forward the car is disposed of but in this case it may be auctioned with the money going to charity", a spokesman for Birmingham City Council environmental services department said.
