Woman finds own portrait in shop

A pensioner was left stunned after coming across a 50-year-old portrait of herself during a chance visit to an antiques shop.

Lilie Forrester, from St Andrews, Fife, had completely forgotten about the artwork, which was painted in the 1950s. She has now bought the piece by Fife artist TS Halliday.

Retired art teacher Mrs Forrester snapped up the picture for £170 after spotting it at the Rait Antiques Centre in Perthshire last week.

“I saw the portrait and said to my friend ‘That looks a wee bit like me’.

“She then pointed out it had my name on it.”

The portrait was painted when Mrs Forrester was aged around 18 and a student in Dundee, living with her aunt and uncle in the nearby village of Wormit.
