Authorities are investigating the deaths of a man and a woman whose bodies were found on a couch in a West 25th Avenue apartment just off Minnesota Drive, Anchorage police said.
Police said the couple, who might have been dead for weeks, were found sitting on a couch in front of a television that was still playing. Investigators have not determined a cause of death.
Anchorage Police Department spokesman Lt. Paul Honeman described the condition of the bodies as "very decomposed." A cat found in the apartment appeared to be fine; cat food was available from open bags, said Officer Ross Heinikman.
Heinikman said there were no signs of violence in the one-bedroom apartment.
Neighbours said they had been noticing a foul odor spreading around the building for up to three weeks.
