Man charged with felony in assault with dog bone

A 41-year-old West Nyack man had a rough night that ended in the doghouse - the town jail - where he faces felony charges that he hit another person in the face with a rawhide bone, police said.

Thomas Raheb spent the night in the Clarkstown jail after police were called to his Strawtown Road home shortly before 11 p.m. Wednesday to investigate a fight.

Police found Raheb in a "highly intoxicated and agitated state," Detective Sgt. Gerard King said.

A 26-year-old man in the house told police that Raheb struck him in the face with a rawhide dog bone during a family dispute in which family members threw oranges at one another. Other people, including a child, were in the house at the time.

The victim was bleeding profusely and medics at the scene told him he needed stitches, but he refused medical attention, King said.

Raheb was charged with second-degree assault, a felony; endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor; and two counts of harassment with physical contact, a violation.

Police said they did not find the dog bone.
