New willow nose job for city home - Update

A famous fibreglass nose on the side of a house in the Redland area of Bristol has been replaced.

The new nose has a different look as it is made from willow.

The original 12ft nose had been on the side of the house in Roslyn Road for more than 10 years but lost most of one nostril in an attack by vandals.

Homeowner Jane Tarr saidthat she tried to fix the old nose but was fighting a losing battle.

"We tried to mend it. We put all sorts of fibreglass over but it didn't work. It was in a terrible state," she said.

Artist Oliver Hales was drafted in to create the willow replacement.

"He's worked with it before," said Jane. "It's a material he likes. It's also a bit eco-friendly. Very 21st Century."

The new nose was hoisted onto the house on Saturday.
