Shoppers in a West Austin supermarket ran for cover when a car came crashing through the front doors. The incident happened about 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Randalls off Exposition Boulevard.
Authorities don't know why the elderly woman behind the wheel went through the building, but say shoppers were lucky.
Dan Schuhmacher was among the shoppers inside sent scrambling for cover.
"Everybody was checking to see who was there, and then someone discovered someone was under the car,” Schuhmacher said. “It turns out it was the lady's son who she was coming to pick up."
"The woman was inside of her car and was almost hysterical,” Settles said. “She didn't know what to do when she was in there. We had to tell her to turn her car off and back it up a little bit so we could get her son out from under it."
Three people including the driver's son were taken to area hospitals. Emergency workers say no one was seriously hurt.
