A Central Islip man, who was riding a law mower which collapsed through a cesspool as he rode over it, died as a result of being crushed by the weight of the lawnmower pinning him to the side of the cesspool. That was the determination of the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s Office said.
Sergio Reyes, 34, was riding on the mower on June 12 when as he rode over a cesspool covered by dirt and grass, it collapsed causing Reyes to fall into the cesspool and the machine to topple and pin him against the side wall.
He was unconscious when he was pulled from the cesspool by a fellow worker and two Suffolk County police officers. He was taken to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
