Archie the mutt who misses his sniffs of butt

Meet Archie - one of the more unusual 'victims' of the national smoking ban.

The two-year-old border collie is a cigarette junkie, and finding it hard to adapt to smoke free hostelries. He is a regular at the London Inn on Shaldon Green with his owners, heavy smokers Sarah and John Taylor.

Ever since he was a puppy, Archie has been fascinated by cigarettes and smoke.

"He loves to sniff it and just watching it drift through the air. If we don't keep an eye on him, he will also start eating the butts in ashtrays," said Sarah, 33, a home help of Clifford Close, Shaldon.

"We never smoke in our home, but every time we pop outside for a puff, he insists on following us. He patiently sits there just watching and sometimes inhaling.

"He can't get enough of looking at people smoking in the bar, and if one stubs out, he switches his attention to another who is still lit up. And if anybody has a cigar, then it is a real bonus for him. Going into a smoke-free pub is going to make him very unhappy."
