The "bear-raising" episode happened near Los Angeles. It is thought that the bear left his habitat because of forest fires in the nearby Tehachapi Mountains.
Animal rescue was on the scene and the highway was closed for a time, while the bear considered his options.
He finally came down the pole without any assistance and wandered off into the foliage.
