A town remains on alert, 24 hours after two heifers escaped from a cattle market, sparking the deployment of police marksmen.
Armed officers shot dead one animal in a quiet cul-de-sac in Darlington, after the animals fled a trailer being unloaded at the town's weekly market.
But the second remains on the loose and police have renewed warnings that the half-ton animal is extremely dangerous.
Durham Police said the animal may be sheltering with a domestic herd.
