Kilroy was here

He started out trying to be funny. He ended up being arrested.

Police reported that a 41-year-old man, who was intoxicated at the time, decided to write "Killroy was here" with a permanent marker on the buttocks of his sleeping girlfriend early Sunday in south Wichita.

The phrase "Kilroy was here" became popular among U.S. servicemen during World War II to denote places they had served, been stationed in or passed through.

But the 40-year-old woman did not appreciate the history or the humour when she awoke. She became upset with her boyfriend, police said, and he then got angry with her. He punched her in the face and scratched the left side of her torso, according to the report.

She called police, and when they arrived at the house in the 2300 block of South Belmont at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, he reportedly assaulted one of the officers.

An officer eventually had to use a Taser device to subdue the man, police reported. Neither officer involved in the case was injured.
