After being trapped in the wire snare, the Sumatran tiger is thought to have chewed off its foot or pulled its leg free from the wire, leaving its paw behind in.

Usually losing a foot would be a fatal for a tiger as it would seriously impede its ability to hunt or the animal would die from blood loss or infection.
But this tenacious tiger has appeared to have fully recovered from the loss and is still managing to catch food.

Photographs taken of the Sumatran tiger which is only found on the Sumatra island shows that the beast has adjusted remarkably well to life on three legs
Despite the three-legged tiger's resilience, there are concerns about the tiger's long-term future as a hunter as well as its ability to win a mate because it will be unable to fight off male competitors. Although for the moment he seems to be doing great.
