Japanese police officer arrested after trying to forge open vending machine

A police officer has been arrested for attempted theft after he tried to forge open a drink vending machine late on Monday night, police said.

Junichiro Kano, 58, who works for Kobe Suijo Police Station, has denied the allegations.

A passerby saw Kano trying to forge open a vending machine on Port Island in Kobe's Chuo-ku at about 9:50 p.m. and alerted police.

Officers arrested Kano on the spot. Kano claimed that he was trying to confirm if the machine worked properly.
