Nepalese man chops off own hand in offering to Goddess Kali

A young man in Nepal yesterday chopped off his right hand as an offering to a feared Hindu goddess.

“He offered special worship at the temple this morning. After the worship, he chopped off his right hand and offered to the temple of Goddess Kali,’ the national RSS news agency said.

23-year-old Rajesh Tajpuirya survived the amputation by a kukhuri, a traditional curved Nepali knife, and was in stable condition at a hospital in Biratnagar, 250km (160 miles) southeast of Kathmandu.

It was not known why he sacrificed his hand.
