Animal lover breaks back in fall from window

A woman broke her back after falling 30ft from her window – trying to save an injured bird.

Animal lover Michelle Boothroyd climbed out onto a ledge to help rescue a stricken starling from a gutter.

But she lost her balance and fell. Husband Brian, 36, grabbed hold of her but she eventually lost her grip and plunged from the third floor window.

After she fell Mr Boothroyd, a former lifeguard, frantically ran down four flights of stairs to help his injured wife.

'People at the hospital have been saying that she shouldn't have survived a fall that high', he said.
